Our pick of five estates within twenty minutes of the guesthouse, best visited before the tour buses arrive.
Most guests ask us the same question over breakfast: which estate should we actually go to, given we only have one morning? So here is the honest answer, not the brochure one.
Start early, and start close
Anything within fifteen minutes of Marula Hill is worth visiting before ten in the morning, while the tasting rooms are still quiet and the staff have time to actually talk you through what's in the glass. After ten, the tour buses arrive and the whole valley gets busier.

In no particular order: a family-run cellar with a view worth the drive alone, a smaller producer that only pours what they've got that week, an estate with a genuinely good light lunch menu, one known for a single stubborn old vine block, and one that's mostly there for the walk through the gardens.
What to skip
The big-name estates with coach parking are fine once, but they're not why people fall in love with this valley. If you only have one morning, spend it somewhere that still feels like someone's farm, because most of them still are.
